Q. Where did you get all of these tools?
A. Some came from my own collection but most have been donated by friends and family.
Q. Is this how you make your living; do you get income from this?
A. I work full-time for the SRJC Library and I do not earn income from this tool library
Q. Where do you store your tools?
A. I keep the small tools where I live, The larger tools are in a storage shed.
Q. Why are you doing this?
A. Eight years ago I heard about the Oakland Public Libraries Tool Lending Library and thought it was a wonderful resource. Last summer I decided to see if a tool lending library would work in Sonoma County and here we are. When this library is funded and running, i'd like to remove myself from active involvement and focus on helping other counties in California create their own tool lending libraries.
Q. How will you cover overhead?
A. Here are some approaches. 1) Get adopted by a division/branch of an existing non-profit like the public library or local college. 2) Become an independent non-profit and collect a modest ($10-$20) annual fee per individual or family. 3) Receive funding from a city department, like Community Development, and Economic Development and Housing. Donations from individuals and businesses would also help with any of these approaches.
